5 fights for Darren Till to take next

Darren Till suffered a brutal loss at the hands of Derek Brunson last Saturday. Its inability to prevent teardowns proved costly. Brunson dominated on the floor before submitting ‘The Gorilla’ in the third round.

The loss seemed particularly overwhelming to Darren Till fans; the Liverpudlian was the favorite before the fight. It also looked like a good win away from getting a title shot. Instead, he’s now lost four of his last five games and might no longer be considered a top-flight in the UFC.

Now it will be fascinating to see who the UFC chooses to take on Darren Till next. While an opponent lower in the standings seems likely, it remains to be seen how far a step backward.

It could be that the UFC will choose to continue to place him in big-name fights, given his popularity. ‘The Gorilla’ has a huge fan base, so pitting him against almost any ranked middleweight would instantly produce a contest big enough for the one-night fight main event.

However, with Till still relatively young at just 28, the UFC may opt for a bigger rebuild. It is not unthinkable that the promotion then gives him an unranked opponent. This would allow the English native to regain his confidence and develop the skills he needs to compete at the top of the division.

# 5. Marvin Vettori vs. Darren Till

Marvin Vettori vs. Darren Till is a big fight, but maybe that’s the same reason it won’t happen next. Another big factor in this potential match is that “The Italian Dream” is currently set to face Paulo Costa in the UFC Fight Night main event on October 23.

If this fight continues and Vettori wins, it would be safe to assume that he won’t be Till’s next opponent. In this scenario, the Italian returns to the title race, in the opposite direction to Till’s current trajectory.

However, if Vettori were to lose, especially on a one-sided basis, the UFC could end up bringing these two together. It wouldn’t be the first time either. Their fight scheduled for April 10 failed after Till broke his collarbone.

A fight with Vettori would give Till plenty of free time to work on the flaws exposed by Derek Brunson. It would also be a high level fight. There was a lot of hype surrounding these two when they were supposed to fight earlier this year.

The downside to this fight is that it could possibly go the same way as Brunson’s fight for Darren Till. Vettori is an excellent wrestler. Unless ‘The Gorilla’ can make significant progress against this type of opponent, he could find himself in an even worse position and on a three-game losing streak.
