Alex Pereira, only man to knock out Israel Adesanya, ready for champion since his first UFC fight, says Glover Teixeira



The UFC middleweight division appears to be in a rut as titleholder Israel Adesanya has beaten many of the top contenders. Jared Cannonier is one fighter yet to fight Adesanya. With the two fighters facing off in the Octagon soon, it would be interesting to see if “Izzy” can retain her title again. Despite what will be considered a top contender elimination if “The Last Stylebender” wins at UFC 276, another UFC champion has a name in mind for the Adesanya.

UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira spoke to Ariel Helwani and said his teammate (Alex Pereira) would be ready to take on the champion.

Teixeira said, “It’s nothing, it takes nothing away from the jury, you know. I mean, away from Adesanya, you know. But I think Alex is preparing for the sign in the first fight in the UFC, you know.

“I knew he was going to rise through the ranks. I already know that because style, style make fights, you know. And Alex getting better and better and better man. The guy is, the IQ, the Fighting IQ is so high… He’s so smart You don’t understand that this guy is a genius when it comes to fighting man.

More than a year ago

Pereira already has an upcoming fight against Sean Strickland, who is currently classroom at number four in the division. So it’s a big fight for him. So, if the unranked middleweight manages to defeat “Tarzan,” a title fight would be closer than ever.

If the Brazilian fighter manages to get his arm up in his next fight, seeing him against the champion would indeed be interesting. Considering both are great kickboxers, this would be an interesting fight to see. However, Pereira (5-1-0) is only two fights away from the UFC and has yet to face the best in the division.

Israel Adesanya, a technical and gifted striker, has faced some of the best middleweight mixed martial artists in the octagon. Therefore, in this context, he will have an advantage even against someone who holds two kickboxing wins over him.

Kickboxing results will undoubtedly play a factor. Therefore, it would be an interesting contest if the stars aligned.
