Former Oklahoma Sooner Dom Demas entered the transfer portal in early February and took to social media to announce his intention to complete his final year of Cal Poly eligibility. Demas started at 141 for three years for the Sooners and earned No. 4 All-American honors in his freshman season (2018-19). In addition to his collegiate success, Demas is a talented freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestler making 5 world age level teams in both styles – Cadet (Greco-2014-15), Junior (Greco-2017, freestyle-2018) and U23 (freestyle-2021).

Demas will add strength to the middle of the Cal Poly roster and will likely rank at 141 or 149. The Mustangs finished 22nd in the 2022 NCAA Tournament and earned 2 wrestlers All-American honors – Evan Wick (3rd at 165) and Bernie Truax (4th at 184). While Wick is graduating, Cal Poly will have 4 returning NCAA qualifiers – Antonio Lorenzo, Legend Lamer, Adam Kemp and the aforementioned Truax. With the addition of Demas, expect the Mustangs to have a strong doubles team and challenge themselves to finish in the top 20 at the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
