Chael Sonnen has confirmed what Khabib Nurmagomedov has revealed regarding his win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
That night on Fight Island, Khabib Nurmagomedov ripped Justin Gaethje like a hot knife through butter and put him to sleep in their UFC lightweight title clash. Subsequently, “The Eagle” quickly withdrew from mixed martial arts to focus on the next phase of his life.
In the months following the victory, Khabib actually revealed that he went from an armband to a triangular choke in the final streak because he didn’t want to seriously injure “The Highlight” in front of his family, who was. present.
Now, Chael Sonnen has given his opinion on whether this is true or not. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the former two-division UFC title challenger said:
“I was a believer in Khabib and didn’t even know how good he was until he fought Gaethje. So Khabib went on his back, went to an armband, let the armband go, which he said later because he saw Justin’s mother in the front row. He knew Justin was going to want to hug his mom after the fight, so he didn’t break his arm. Lots of guys are going to re-fabricate the story to make them look good – but I think Khabib was telling the truth, because I saw him let go of that arm. I saw him look into the crowd and let go of that arm.
