Charles Oliveira open to fighting with fellow UFC champions Alexander Volkanovski, Kamaru Usman

Charles Oliveira could be the next UFC champion to pursue the double gold medal.

Fresh off an exciting third round submission to Dustin Poirier in his first lightweight belt defense at UFC 269, “do Bronx” told MMA Fighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca he agrees with his trainer Diego Lima that it is entirely doable to aim for more titles.

Lima recently said Trocação Franca that it would be “viable” to go back to 145 pounds to challenge Alexander Volkanoski or go up to 170 pounds and face welterweight king Kamaru Usman. Oliveira has one preference, but wouldn’t refuse the other.

“I really thought I couldn’t go down to 145 anymore,” Oliveira said, “but this last weight reduction, I was really [close to] 155 before the fight with this work that we did, with a lot of water in the body, and we think we could easily do 145.

Oliveira hasn’t competed at featherweight since November 2016, when he ran out of weight for a clash with Ricardo Lamas. After being forced to climb up to 155 pounds, Oliveira won 11 of her next 12 fights inside the Octagon.

“If I had the opportunity to go straight for belt 145, I would come down to fight,” said Oliveira. “Also, if I had the opportunity to go straight for the 170 belt, I would also go into combat, but I think it’s more viable to [drop down] to 145 instead of going to 170 right now. “

Volkanovski and Usman are both undefeated under the UFC banner. The former has won 10 consecutive fights inside the Octagon, his last three being championships, while “The Nigerian Nightmare” approaches Anderson Silva’s all-time record after posting a 15-0 record. to start his career in the company, winning the belt and defending it five times already.

“To become a two-division champion, a Brazilian, would be great,” said Oliveira.

The UFC has yet to decide on Oliveira’s next stop in 2022. Justin Gaethje is likely next for the lightweight champion, but “do Bronx” has revealed he will also entertain a clash with Conor McGregor at the place.
