Claressa Shields sets the record straight on Jake Paul’s emails

Claressa Shields hopes Jake Paul will be knocked out if he ends up facing UFC legend Anderson Silva in the boxing ring.

Shields and Paul had a long-running feud but appeared to have crushed their rivalry in recent months, making glowing comments about each other. But Shields changed her mind and said she hoped to see Silva, who re-emerged as a combat sports force in his late 40s as a boxer, knock her out.

Paul has gone 5-0 as a professional boxer and has stopped all four opponents since his January 2020 debut, including MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. But he has yet to fight anyone who has boxed professionally before or after facing him.

Shields argues that this, coupled with his bold appeals of Canelo Alvarez and other top fighters, is indicative of a lack of respect for the sport. Although she’s softened her stance on Paul lately, she admits she wants to see Silva beat him.

“I want Anderson Silva to knock out Jake Paul”, Shields says Le Schmo. “That’s what I want. And I believe he’s the guy to do it. I think Jake Paul fought Tyron Woodley, who’s a great guy, great MMA fighter.

“But Silva has shown he’s a very, very good boxer, even though he has an MMA background. So I would love to see him fight a Jake Paul. I think both guys are really improving their skills, I don’t don’t really like Jake Paul likes it I want him and Anderson Silva to fight, and I want Anderson Silva to win.

Silva is a 3-1 professional boxer and recently took part in an unauthorized exhibition bout against fellow MMA fighter Bruno Machado in Dubai. He outplayed his opponent over the distance of eight rounds and dropped him with a massive shot, but no score was announced and his record remained intact at 3-1.

His last legitimate win was a brutal knockout of Tito Ortiz minutes after their fight on the undercard of Evander Holyfield’s comeback fight with Vitor Belfort in September. Silva remained respectful of brothers Paul Jake and Logan amid much fight talk, and could still be a potential opponent for the younger’s return on August 6.

No opponent has yet been announced for Paul’s first fight in Madison Square Garden, which will be featured as a double headliner with women’s boxing legend Amanda Serrano. The Brooklyn native just fought Katie Taylor in the greatest women’s boxing match of all time and is set to face the Irishman next year.

“I love what Jake Paul is doing,” Shields added. “He brought a lot of attention to boxing and women’s boxing. It’s just that he respects the sport, and if you’re going to call out Canelo and that kind of stuff, you at least have to fight a real fighter and not use everyone’s name for weight.
