Conor McGregor made headlines again for the wrong reasons on Sunday with a reported altercation with Machine Gun Kelly at the MTV Music Video Awards.
According to TMZ, McGregor approached “MGK” at the awards show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, to request a photo. He was apparently denied, which sparked the ire of the former two-division UFC champion.
The report claims that “MGK” pushed McGregor, causing his drink to spill and the cane he used to spill during recovery from the broken leg suffered in his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July. The report states that McGregor attempted to throw the remains of his drink at “MGK” by approaching him. They were said to have been separated before anything became physical, and the situation calmed down.
There were several photographers on hand for the prizes, and photos and videos of the restrained McGregor were captured (via Twitter):
McGregor’s team at Paradigm Sports Management did not immediately respond to MMA Junkie’s request for comment on the conflict, and neither the fighter nor the musician has commented publicly.
“The Notorious” remained in the United States after his trilogy was lost to Poirier at UFC 264. He spent his time in Los Angeles, where he underwent surgery and received physical therapy.
It’s unclear if or when McGregor will return to the Octagon for his next fight, but UFC President Dana White has said following his injury he expects the Irishman to be. absent for at least one year.
McGregor has always found a way to keep his name there, from his Twitter rants to that latest incident with “MGK”.
