Daniel Cormier comments on Brock Lesnar showdown years after UFC brawl

Daniel Cormier has commented on a potential WWE match against Brock Lesnar following their UFC brawl in 2018.

The world of mixed martial arts is a pretty strange place sometimes and to the same extent the same can always be said of professional wrestling.

The two mirror each other more often than you might think and that includes crossover stars that pop up from time to time, largely ranging from MMA to square circle – or, more specifically, UFC to WWE.

Brock Lesnar has danced to this line many times with his last Octagon appearance at UFC 200, while his WWE career is much bigger given he was featured in the main event of SummerSlam last July.

In 2018, however, Lesnar flirted with the idea of another return to the cage when he appeared at UFC 226.

That night, Daniel Cormier defeated Stipe Miocic by knockout to become the new UFC heavyweight champion, completing his rise to champion-champion status.

Lesnar then entered the cage and interrupted DC’s celebrations, essentially challenging him to fight for the belt.

It never quite came to fruition, but with Cormier gearing up for his own WWE adventure, it’s no surprise he was asked about the idea during a recent interview.

“This [ref gig] is honestly really good for me because people are starting to talk,” Cormier said. People start talking, saying, ‘Oh my God, I remember when him and Brock were in the octagon, supposed to fight.’ So that makes a lot of sense, but as you know, just because something makes sense doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. So no, there’s no way I’m fighting Brock Lesnar.

What’s next for Cormier?

This weekend at WWE Extreme Rules, Daniel Cormier will make his first official WWE ring appearance when he takes on the role of Special Guest Referee in the match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle.

Cormier appeared on Monday Night RAW earlier this week, but this time around he’ll be expected to take on a more physical role, with the duo going head-to-head in a Fight Pit stipulation.

It remains to be seen whether “The Beast Incarnate” will be present or not.
