Darren Till reacts after Khamzat Chimaev was kicked out of UFC 279 main event for lack of weight: ‘Nate gets the fight he deserves’

Darren Till has reacted after his good friend Khamzat Chimaev was ousted from the UFC main event for lack of weight.

Chimaev (11-0 MMA) was scheduled to face Nate Diaz (21-13 MMA) to headline Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. However, after ‘Borz’ missed weight by 7.5 pounds, Team Diaz dismissed any notion of the fight taking place at catchweight.

With that, the UFC rushed to create a new main card and ended up booking the following fights:

Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson – Welterweight Main Event

Khamzat Chimaev vs Kevin Holland – Catchweight Co-Main Event

Daniel Rodriguez vs. Li Jingliang – Catchweight Fight

While ‘Borz’ originally joked that Darren Till was to blame for his botched weight loss, UFC President Dana White later revealed that doctors told Chimaev to stop lose weight for health reasons.

“So what happened was he was losing weight. If you saw him yesterday he was already very skinny and he should have gained weight. He started losing weight and you you know, he started getting locked up and having cramps. Anything that happens as a result of a bad cut.

White continued, “Unlike ten years ago, when we did this, we call and send a doctor and he determines whether he should continue to lose weight or not. The doctor told him not to. So, we jumped on it [saving this card] this morning.”

Shortly after the reveal of the new UFC 279 lineup, Darren Till took social media where he shared his thoughts on everything that happened on Friday.

“Nate gets the fight he deserves…Khamzat gets to crush Holland…&Li & D.Rod will actually be a sick fight, plus Li fighting a guy 10lbs taller than him. What a G! » – Till wrote.

Darren Till and Khamzat Chimaev, the “smesh brothers”, are of course good friends and training partners.
