The winner of Season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America” recently signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator and is set to debut for promotion on January 29 at Bellator 273. He also has a big fight right from the start. departure, as he prepares to face former bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell.

Barzola (16-5-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) recently competed in March 2020, when he faced veteran Rani Yahya in a draw at UFC Fight Night 170 in Brazil. It was the last fight of his UFC contract and he didn’t quit. It has been a struggle for Barzola as the embassies in Peru were closed due to the pandemic and he was unable to obtain a visa to work in the United States.

It’s almost two years later, but now the AKA product is back and can’t wait to get back into action under a new banner.

“I thought it was a big (move), the contract was good and I’m happy in my new home in Bellator,” Barzola told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “I have a very tough fight against a former champion in Darrion Caldwell and I’m happy for the opportunity.”

Barzola respects Caldwell (15-5 MMA, 12-4 BMMA) and what he has done in the promotion but has said he has no hesitation in setting high ambitions and goals for himself within Bellator. .

“Absolutely, (the goal) is the title,” said Barzola. “I think about the belt a lot, of course, but right now my main focus is on my opponent – Darrion Caldwell – who is a very experienced fighter. But there is nothing to fear from him. I know the tools I have and the strength I have, so I’m happy with it.

“I am always ready to fight anyone. Darrion Caldwell is a very experienced fighter and he was a two-time champion in the United States. He’s a great competitor and a former 135-pound Bellator champion. He has a good name. I am a tough fighter and have fought fighters with a lot of experience. I know that with all the work that I have done in this camp, brother, I have a eat-alive mentality. I am determined to beat him.

Barzola’s signing arguably places him in Bellator’s deepest division. Sergio Pettis is currently the champion with many qualified contenders waiting in line for a chance at the belt. Barzola is well aware of the opposition he faces.

“It’s a division with a lot of good names,” said Barzola. “There’s Kyoji Horiguchi, Sergio Pettis, Darrion Caldwell and other names that I don’t remember right now but they’re very good. Fighter who are training partners of champions such as TJ Dillashaw, among others.

“I am very excited about this new chapter. I am at this level and I will stay focused so that I can continue to improve. I can’t wait to fight because I haven’t competed for almost two years. This is how it went, sometimes you have your goals in sight, but certain circumstances can get in your way. But you have to always stay focused.
