MANILA, Philippines — The co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Strickland this Sunday, Feb. 6 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, is a middleweight matchup between Punahele Soriano (8- 1-0) and Nick Maximov (7-0-0).

“It’s surreal to co-head a fight,” said Maximov Philstar.com. “And I would probably feel more alive about it the closer the fight gets.”

Maximov and Punahele are among the most exciting fighters to come to the UFC in the past two years.

The fact that with only their third UFC fight they are co-leads speaks volumes about their potential.

Maximov, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., won his first two UFC bouts by unanimous decision.

Soriano, who hails from Hawaii, won his first two UFC fights but lost his last outing to Brendan Allan in UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs Dillashaw.

Soriano is known to be a brutal fighter, one who punishes his enemies with thunderbolts.

Maximov, on the other hand, is a cold and calculating assassin who jumps on the mistakes of his enemies.

Seven of Soriano’s 10 fights have ended in the first round.

As for Maximov, only two of his seven pro fights have gone the distance.

In this game, everyone expects it to end early.

“We both have similar styles and we both come from a wrestling background,” Maximov observed. “But I started jiu jitsu while he was doing judo.”

“As far as tactics go against an aggressive fighter like Soriano, what I’m going to do is go ahead and go straight for him. With a powerful puncher (like him), the worst thing you can do is back up, so I plan to meet him in the middle.

Maximov doesn’t think being unbeaten puts pressure on him.

“It’s also on the other guy because there’s this psychological edge that you have when you keep beating enemies. But I’m ready to put on a show and get this fight going. Hope my fans Filipinos will come to support me this Sunday.

UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Strickland and the Maximov-Punahele fight will be broadcast live this Sunday, February 6 on Premier Sports on Skycable and Cignal as well as the TapGo streaming app.
