Fedor Emelianenko tapped as new

Fedor Emelianenko takes on a new role.

Emelianenko was elected president of the Russian Mixed Martial Arts Federation. The legendary Russian fighter has greatly influenced Russian MMA with his impressive career.

He won the majority of votes in Tuesday’s election, according to TASS.

But that doesn’t mean Emelianenko is retiring from professional MMA just yet. He clarified it himself.

“I will continue my career,” he said. “The fight is supposed to be scheduled for September. It will be difficult to combine, but it is a necessity.

His last appearance was in Bellator, where he got a first-round knockout over Timothy Johnson.
This fight in September may be his last.

There were plans for the cross-promotion event, with a heavyweight title fight headlined between Emelianenko and Junior Dos Santos, but since Dos Santos suffered defeat in the promotional debut of the Eagle FC, Emelianenko said he was no longer interested.

Emelianenko has often mentioned that he wants a rematch with Ryan Bader, but nothing is official about that.
Russia’s new MMA president beat out Radnor Gabdullin for the role. From now on, Gadbullin will serve as vice-president.
