Fights on Tap is a weekly roundup of all booked fights in the UFC, Bellator and other promotions.
Fight week is here, ladies and gentlemen! UFC 274 drops Saturday night, but before we get to those fights, let’s take a look at what’s to come in the upcoming schedule.
The UFC has announced or finalized 22 fights this week, and a clash between the No. 1 and No. 3 in the heavyweight division has been scheduled for a rumored event in France.
Dana White said he would “definitely” host an event in France this year, and the UFC president reportedly kept that promise. The UFC has wanted to go to France since mixed martial arts was legalized in the country over two years ago, and who better to lead the inaugural event than one of the promotion’s French stars? That’s right, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane was selected to headline against compatriot Tai Tuivasa.
Gane returns for the first time since losing a unanimous decision to current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou at UFC 270 last January. The previously undefeated fighter was on a tear before this loss, beating notable names in the division such as Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov and Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa is on a five-fight winning streak, including the “Performance of the Night” awarding knockouts to Greg Hardy, Augusto Sakai and the aforementioned Lewis.
