Gamebred FC 3 preview – Lopez vs. Nicholson


Gamebred FC 3 takes place this Friday, December 17 from 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. Gamebred FC is the first ever unarmed mixed martial arts promotion. This event will take place at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center in Biloxi, Mississippi, as Alex nicholson and Tony lopez will compete against each other in the Main Event, while the Main Co-Event is a light fight between Anthony Njokuani and Michael McDonald.

Gamebred FC 3 Main Event

Alex Nicholson enters this fight after his knockout victory over Johnathan Ivey in the Gamebred FC 2 main event in October. It was his first fight since 2019 when he lost to Francimar Barroso in the PFL final. Nicholson completed his 14 professional MMA victories, including 12 by knockout. He has an exciting fighting style that is a perfect match for unarmed MMA. Nicholson is in his prime at 31 as his competitor Tony Lopez just turned 48 in November.

Tony Lopez has a professional MMA record of 63-31 with his last fight being a decision loss to Jared vanderaa in 2019, when he switched from MMA to kickboxing and boxing. He even had a fight for BKFC, where he lost a decision to Alain belcher. 52 of Lopez’s 63 professional MMA wins end with 26 submissions and 26 knockouts. Lopez has career wins over fighters like Josh Parisian, Shannon Ritch, Houston Alexander, Viktor Nemkov, and Joey beltran twice. He is a true pioneer of the sport and fights professionally since 2005.

Gamebred FC 3 Main Co-Event

UFC veteran Anthony Njokuani will return to combat sports at Gamebred FC 3 when he takes on Michael McDonald. Njokuani has been inactive since his victory in Muay Thai Elliot Compton in October 2019. The last time he had an MMA fight was a decision loss to Leonardo of Mafra in 2016. He made a brief stint in the UFC from 2011 to 2013, where he racked up a 3-5 record in the company. He went 0-3 after being released by the UFC, then fought two Muay Thai fights and one kickboxing fight. Now 41, he will return to fight 27-year-old Michael McDonald.

Michael McDonald has a professional MMA record of 7-4 and just lost a decision to Omar Johnson at Atlas Fights 54 in August 2020. McDonald’s has scored five of his seven submission wins and has never finished his professional career. He won his BKFC debut in 2018 with a TKO on “Felony” Charles bennett and lost his professional boxing debut to Sean hemphill in 2019. McDonald’s will enter this fight at a three to four inch waist disadvantage, but will have youngsters his height entering this fight 14 years younger than Njokuani.

Other exciting fights

Two fights on Gamebred FC 3 that really stand out are Javanis ross vs RJ Summerlin and James freeman vs Cody Herbert. Javanis Ross had fought on both previous Gamebred FC maps, losing a submission to Wesley Doré at Gamebred FC 1 and submitting Cody Herbert to Gamebred FC 2. He fought once in October, once in November, and will now fight in December. Summerlin also fought on Gamebred FC 2 in October with a TKO victory over Chris Mixan.

James Freeman will enter his fight this weekend at 40. He has a professional MMA record of 6-5, but he started his MMA career 5-0 from 2009 to 2016. His six wins are by knockout and only lost one fight by decision. Freeman will face Cody Herbert, who has a professional MMA record of 2-0. In his professional debut, he eliminated 4-1 Blake Singley. The only two losses in his professional combat sports career are a boxing loss against Chris Minor and the aforementioned submission loss at Gamebred FC 2 to Javanis Ross.
