Gillian Robertson targets strawweight division after setting UFC record for submissions


“The Savage” improved her UFC record to 11-7 on Saturday by submitting Mariya Agapova with a rear naked choke at UFC Fight Night 210.

The win also saw Robertson pick up her sixth UFC submission win, which is a women’s record for the organization.

Now, the 27-year-old is eyeing a UFC event in Florida on Dec. 3 as potentially her next date for an Octagon war.

On this occasion, she weighs maybe 10 pounds less, as she plans to go from flyweight to strawweight.

“I heard there was a card on Dec. 3 in Orlando, Florida, and I’ve never fought in the UFC in Florida before, so that would be a great opportunity – maybe someone in the 115-pound division,” she said. as quoted by MMA Junkie.

“(My trainer) kind of pushed for it, and I’m a little nervous (about the move to strawweight).

“But I’ve definitely walked a lot smaller than before, and that’s definitely an opportunity that I’m looking at right now.”

Overall, the Canadian is excited to fight for the UFC and can’t imagine doing anything else for a living.

“It’s the most beautiful work in the world,” she added. “What most people get arrested for, I get paid. So I’m happy with that.

“It’s so cool to be able to walk into the cage and do what I love and literally be able to live my dream.”
