“He who fled may well come back”

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping believes Khabib Nurmagomedov will end his two-year retirement from MMA to settle a long-running rivalry with Tony Ferguson.

A fight between ‘The Eagle’ and ‘El Cucuy’ was surprisingly booked five times, but a series of unfortunate events meant they never faced each other in the UFC octagon.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson is one of the few MMA fights that got away

In October 2020, Nurmagomedov left the sport following the death of his father, and almost two years later he appears to be content with retirement.

Ferguson is currently riding a four-fight losing streak and seems to have accepted that he will never get the chance to get tossed with the former lightweight champion.

The 37-year-old has finally accepted that a fight between the two will never happen and suggested they settle their issue once and for all by training side-by-side in the next round of Ultimate Fighter. [TUF].

TUF is an MMA reality show that gives a group of fighters the chance to compete for a UFC contract, under the guidance of two established stars, who act as trainers.

Nurmagomedov appears to be open to the idea, as is UFC President Dana White, who hopes the experience will spark the Russian’s undefeated MMA return.

‘The Count’, who won the show’s third season before returning to it twice, thinks that’s exactly what will happen if the two longtime rivals spend several weeks filming side-by-side.

“When you’re so close to your opponent that you want nothing more than to strangle them. You want nothing more than to be paid big bucks to beat them,” Bisping said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“You are often with these people. These adversaries, your enemies, your enemies, your rivals. You are with them all the time, almost 24/7 for six to eight weeks.

“It’s a lot of time for it to get personal, it’s a lot of time for things to build up, to escalate. To make you want to beat him.

Bisping believes that once Nurmagomedov rediscovers his hatred for Ferguson, the right amount of money will convince him to come out of retirement to try and extend his perfect record to 30-0.

“When the fight offer comes in and it’s also for an astronomical amount of money, Khabib gets paid, then you never know – whoever got away might just come back,” he said. .
