- Hiroba Minowa says his versatility can easily surpass Jarred Brooks
- Wins over Lito Adiwang and Alex Silva proved Minowa can get out of any situation
- Minowa and Brooks will serve as the ONE: Only The Brave main card opener
Rising Japanese star Hiroba Minowa thinks his all-around fighting style will give Jarred Brooks a hard time when they meet at ONE: Only The Brave.
Minowa opened up about his advantages against “The Monkey God” and claimed that his style would reign supreme over Brooks’ wrestling skills.
“What I’m better at is my mixed martial arts ability. If you look at wrestling, grappling, striking and physicality individually, he’s probably better than me. But I’m stronger in my ability to combine them and make them work together. If you look at my last two fights, you can see that,” Minowa explained.
“My style can work well against an opponent like [Jarred] Brooks if I put my mind to it. If there’s a style to beat [Jarred] Brooks is [Hiroba] Minowa style,” he added.
The 22-year-old from Saitama, Japan is still undefeated in his two ONE Championship appearances after taking on Team Lakay star Lito Adiwang and current No. 5-ranked strawweight Alex Silva.
Miroba relied heavily on his wrestling pedigree against both fighters and managed to pick up split decision victories despite dangerous situations.
Brooks is no slouch himself as he used his wrestling ability in his fight against a common opponent in Adiwang to stifle the Filipino and claim victory via a triangle arm choke in the second round of his championship debut. ONE.
With reigning strawweight king Joshua Pacio awaiting his next challenger, Minowa believes his fight against Brooks will determine who team rep Lakay faces next as they are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Confident in his abilities to negate Brooks’ struggle, Minowa is confident he can pull off victory by any means necessary.
“There are many ways, but I think I will win by ippon (submission) in the third round. I think I will win by split decision, even if I’m struggling. If there’s luck, I can win by KO. Maybe I could win by ippon in the first round,” Minowa said.
ONE: Only The Brave will be streamed live on the ONE Super App and the official ONE Championship YouTube channel at 8:30 p.m. SGT (7:30 a.m. ET in the US) on January 28.
