Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans are clamoring for a light showdown between the no. 1 classified Khabib Nurmagomedov and not. 2 ranked Tony Ferguson. The negotiations reached a snag and the two men played the blame game. “The Eagle” claimed Ferguson would not sign for a fight in March, while “El Cucuy” said Nurmagomedov turned down a fight for January.

Ferguson appeared on The MMA Hour and made it clear that he doesn’t like Nurmagomedov:

“I think everyone should realize that the gloves are always off. i don’t like this guy [Nurmagomedov]. I think my fighting style is so much better than his. I’m not even going to go into the numbers, but my numbers speak for themselves when it comes to finishing people and I have nine straight wins. I’m just a much better fighter than this guy.

The pair are vying for a chance for Conor McGregor‘s title and believe they deserve a chance. While they both agree to want better contracts with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), “El Cucuy” wants us to know that they are not friends.

“I’m not talking to the guy. I am not his best friend. We took a pic just so I could measure the guy. We’re going to fight, that’s how it is. Things have to be fine, they have to be on good terms.

Ferguson has said he’s ready to face Nurmagomedov in January, which obviously won’t happen. “El Cucuy” explained what happened.

“When he didn’t want to sign on the dotted line because he had too many sores or didn’t want to do it in my hometown, I was like I’m going to take a little break and see what happens . “

There’s been a lot of talk about Ferguson’s contract with the UFC. “El Cucuy” wants more money, but UFC president Dana White wants him to honor the contract he signed “not that long ago.” Ferguson believes his work has gone beyond current terms.

“I have a contract, but I surpassed this contract. I want a level playing field, I want to be compensated for this particular fight. The UFC has a long history of modifying a fighter’s pay for a particular fight. We just saw him for UFC 207 with Ronda. I got a phone call saying, “Hey, you put on weight with jeans” and it wasn’t even a ceremonial weigh-in. I had my ears full of it.
