“I would like to test myself”

Following his retirement from MMA at UFC 278, former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold welcomed the chance to compete in boxing if the right opportunity presented itself.

Rockhold was arguably thrown to the wolves when he took on Brazilian powerhouse Paulo Costa at UFC 278. Two men who were at very different stages of their respective careers, it seemed like this matchup was scripted with just one results. Eleven of Costa’s thirteen wins at the time had come by knockout leading up to this match. Luke Rockhold had suffered back-to-back defeats in this manner and thus led the majority of those invested in the game to expect him to suffer the same fate again.

However, that was not to be the case. Costa would ultimately win the match by unanimous decision, but not without having to overcome some adversity. Rockhold showed signs of his old self, landing devastating punches and more of his infamous kicks as he took on the Brazilian for the full fifteen minutes.

Despite losing in what would be his final appearance in mixed martial arts competition, his determination and heart on display during the fight earned him the respect he deserved from those who were lucky enough to watch.

Luke Rockhold reveals his desire to test himself in boxing

Having now taken the time to recover and rest after this grueling battle, Luke Rockhold shared his interest in entering the boxing ring if the right opportunity presented itself.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Rockhold spoke about his desire to try new things and suggested that boxing might provide him with the perfect opportunity to do so.

“I love physical stress, no doubt,” Rockhold said.

“I will definitely be looking to drive away adversity and discomfort. I’m not averse to boxing; my legs need a fucking break. So if there are interesting people with the right people in the good promotion, I would like to test myself New companies are always great. (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Luke Rockhold wouldn’t be the first mixed martial artist to make the switch with Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren and Anderson Silva all having previously competed in boxing.

How do you think Luke Rockhold would do if he switched to boxing?
