The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has imposed a lifetime ban on wrestler Satender Malik after he beat referee Jagbir Singh in the CWG tryouts inside KD Jadhav Hall at IGI Stadium. This was informed by WFI Deputy Secretary Vinod Tomar.
The incident took place after Satender Malik lost the 125kg final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games Trials. He allegedly punched the referee at the stadium, prompting the wrestling federation to impose a lifetime ban on the wrestler. Indian Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan was present on the occasion.
Following the ban, the wrestler will not be allowed to participate in any wrestling events from now on. Malik said he will have to obey the federation’s decision.

What exactly happened?
According to reports, Satender Malik first abused the referee and then slapped him. Jagbir Singh lost his balance and fell to the ground during the 2022 Commonwealth Games Trials on May 17, 2022.
The wrestler, however, said on May 25 that it was the referee who got hold of him first and started the fight. He claimed the referee made false accusations against him and never told the media that he first got his hands on him. “He did a lot of things and accused me of abusing him. The media exaggerated the whole episode. I felt pained, but I knew the truth couldn’t be hidden,” Malik said of the incident.
The wrestler also said that many wrestlers were present at the stadium during the incident and “if he (the referee) is right, then why doesn’t he get the public support and is he rather abused? ” He said he was sure to win the fight but the referee made the wrong call and ignored the jury’s decision.
