Interview with UFC fighter Robbie Lawler from Sanford MMA

0

Robbie Lawler made his professional MMA debut in 2001.

He has since racked up a stellar career, which continues into his 20th year on Saturday against Nick Diaz in another UFC main card battle.

UFC 266 Volkanovski vs. Ortega is on ESPN + and PPV from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, a former UFC welterweight champion, fights Nick Diaz in a 2004 rematch, which Diaz won by knockout.

During his illustrious professional tenure, Lawler won three consecutive Sherdog and MMA Fighting “Fight of the Year” awards, for his fights against Johny Hendricks (at UFC 171 in 2014), Rory MacDonald (at l ‘UFC 189 in 2015) and Carlos Condit (at UFC 195 in 2016).

Lawler, who lives in South Florida, trains at Sanford MMA, where MacDonald also trains in Deerfield Beach (South Florida).

Lawler, 39, is 28-15 years old. Diaz, 38, is 26-9 years old. Both fighters are tough and deliver.

Here is my audio interview with Robbie Lawler.

Volkanovski (22-1, fighter in Windang, NSW, Australia) aims to continue his run to the top of the featherweight division with another dominant performance. The former rugby player turned MMA star holds impressive wins over Max Holloway (twice), Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.

Volkanovski is now aiming to get the last laugh against Ortega and secure his successful second title defense.

Submission assistant Ortega (15-1 1NC, fighter in Los Angeles, Calif.) Turned heads in his last outing by hosting a punching clinic against Chan Sung Jung in October. Black belt of talented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he also scored spectacular victories against Frankie Edgar, Cub Swanson and Clay Guida. Ortega is now aiming to settle scores with Volkanovski and fulfill his dream of winning UFC gold.

Shevchenko (21-3, fighting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) has proven to be one of the most dominant champions in UFC history. Decorated kickboxer, she delivered memorable victories against Jessica Eye, Holly Holm and Julianna Pena. Shevchenko is now looking to continue building his legacy with another title defense that steals the show.

Murphy (15-4, fighter in Houston, Texas) intends to shock the world by becoming the first fighter to defeat Shevchenko at 125 pounds. During her UFC run, the 11-year-old MMA veteran scored notable victories over Joanne Calderwood, Andrea Lee and Mara Romero Borella. Murphy now aims to dethrone Shevchenko and become only the third female flyweight champion in UFC history.

MMA superstar Diaz (26-9 2NC, fighter in Stockton, Calif.) Returns to the Octagon for the first time in over six years. Throughout his epic career, he has scored sensational victories against former UFC champions BJ Penn, Frank Shamrock and Lawler. Diaz now intends to remind fans that he’s still among the best in the world by taking out Lawler a second time.

Lawler (28-15 1NC, fighting Sanford MMA / Deerfield Beach, Florida) hopes to tie the game with Diaz 17 years after their first meeting. The former UFC welterweight champion delivered some thrilling knockouts against Rory MacDonald, Jake Ellenberger and Josh Koscheck, and he’s now aiming to get revenge on Diaz and start climbing the ranks to the belt.

Additional fights on the map include:

• In a heavyweight bout, Curtis Blaydes, ranked No.4 (14-3 1NC, fighter from Chicago, Illinois) faces Jairzinho Rozenstruik No.6 (12-2, fighter from Paramaribo, Suriname)
