Jake Paul will continue to shine if he fights the MMA guys

Floyd Mayweather won’t take Jake Paul seriously if he continues to face MMA fighters after their heyday.

At 5-0, Paul is undefeated as a professional boxer and has knockout victories over former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. Known for his pursuit of big paydays, Mayweather can appreciate the buzz the YouTube star has created.

But Paul as a boxer? Hall of Famer Mayweather, 45, says it’s easy to look good against fighters who aren’t real boxers.

“Jake Paul, at the moment, for what he does, it’s good for what he does,” Mayweather said in an interview with TMZ. “But once he fights a real real real fighter, it’s going to be bad. But one thing I like about him: he sells it and he makes a lot of money. He is entertaining. I like it.

“As long as he continues to fight MMA guys and YouTubers, he will continue to look good and shine. But once he fights a real fighter, a real fighter who can really fight, it’s not going to be so good.

Mayweather, who retired in 2017 after his win over Conor McGregor moved him up 5-0, is currently entertaining himself through exhibition bouts. He recently defeated Paul’s older brother, Logan, but wouldn’t rule out a real fight with ‘The Problem Child’, who sparked a fight when he ripped off his hat at a press event.

“I think he (Paul) was doing a session on a podcast one time, and he talked about it and he said, ‘I don’t want to do a show against Floyd Mayweather.’ He said, “I only do real fights.” And of course I can’t gain weight, but I will fight it in a real fight at the weight I am at.

Paul may not have fought a legit boxer, but he was bold enough to express an interest in fighting Canelo Alvarez, which Mayweather thinks is ridiculous.
