AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — For Halloween, you can dress up as something spooky, or your favorite athlete, maybe even someone from Team USA.

If you’re 14, Josiah Boyden, it’s no longer a disguise, it’s its reality.

“My dad introduced me to this when I was five, and well, I kept doing it and doing it over and over again. So once I started doing it myself , I started liking it more and loving it,” Boyden said.

A love, which is now part of his lifestyle.

“From being younger, you come into it and now you have to prepare yourself mentally and prepare yourself right before a game,” Boyden said.

It’s paid off, Boyden is on his way to the Pan Am Championships in Colombia, “I’m excited for this. But at the same time, I’m nervous because I don’t know what’s going to happen. »

The 14-year-old clinched his ticket after winning the team trials last spring. He won first place in the freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles.

Now he’s just days away from wearing Team USA on his chest.

“There are only 10 kids who are actually on this USA team to compete out of state. So to be 14 and on your first world team to compete for USA is enough. amazing,” said Justin Boyden, her trainer and father.

On Friday, Josiah will wrestle in Greco-Roman wrestling, on Sunday he will wrestle in freestyle.
