The current reported state of Mark Hunt’s legal battle with the UFC could serve as a rather ominous warning to other UFC fighters
Mark Hunt called out UFC bosses Dana White and Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, amid claims he lost his legal battle with them.
After his fight with Brock Lesnar was declared without competition, Hunt claimed the promotion put him in the cage with Lesnar, already knowing he was using DEPs.
The case was initially dismissed in 2019, however, the appeals court ruled to reopen the cases for fraud and assault and battery in September 2021.
A disturbing report.
The reason is one that could prove to be very costly for fighters seeking to take legal action against the UFC.
The report said, “In the recent case (Hunt v. Zuffa), the UFC won on several motions to dismiss and a motion for summary judgment.
“The UFC has sought to recoup legal fees from Hunt under a clause in his contract with the promotion that has potentially overwhelming consequences for a fighter who unsuccessfully pursues the promotion.
“The contract states that a ‘predominant party’ may recover ‘the fees and expenses of its attorneys’ if necessary to resolve disputes ‘arising out of or relating to this agreement’.
In other words, Hunt’s battle with the UFC will not only leave him out of pocket due to his own legal fees and inability to do his job with the promotion he seeks, but he will also suffer the hardships. repercussions of having to pay. for UFC legal fees.
While there is a lot in this decision that is inherently fair, as the stipulation should deter fighters from unnecessarily suing the UFC, concern now becomes just how financially difficult it must be to shoot the UFC.

Is it over?
If looking for the promotion that earns you wasn’t already enough of a deterrent, Hunt’s case appears to be one that could prevent other fighters from taking action if there is a dispute.
Hunt, however, wasn’t ready to throw in the towel and believed the decision was premature, but the relationship continued in a way that doesn’t seem too promising to him.
“Hunt argued that it was premature to order costs due to an ongoing appeal in the lawsuit between the parties. The Court, however, gave this argument little weight in noting the following.
“While I appreciate Hunt’s stated desire to conserve judicial resources and to avoid the ‘tedious task of determining an appropriate amount of fees’ if he wins his appeal, I find that the effective resolution of this matter is best served by my resolution of the UFC motion fee. So I reject Hunt’s request to postpone the decision on the UFC motion until after the appeal “
The report then concluded: “While Hunt admits that the UFC may seek attorney’s fees and costs to defend against all of Hunt’s claims under the explicit terms of the parties’ agreement , he argues that the UFC’s claim for fees is premature and unreasonable and seeks costs dismissed under federal law. Because
“I find that UFC is entitled to attorney’s fees and costs under the parties’ agreement, its request is reasonable and its request mature, I accept UFC’s request in its entirety.”

Hunt responded to one of the articles on bjpenn.com and called the reporter who wrote the article, asking where he got his information from.
“BJ Penn brother. Really Christopher Taylor? 2022, the start of a new year and you say I have to pay that go, mate. Where did you get this information from? Did you just invent it or what?
Hunt continued to post on his Instagram story, suggesting that the matter be settled in a different way.
“Score the Super Samoan against Dana ‘the Parasite’ White, Lorenzo Fertita and Frank Fertitta.
“5 laps, MMA. These losers – Dana White, Frank Fertita and Lorenzo Fertita have sucked the lives of so many fighters. Him and his scum of friends. You win, I abandon the case. I earn that you pay all the fighters you’ve ripped off since the start of the UFC. Now who would pay to see this.
“I can’t wait for this trial to go to trial. We’ll see where all these backbone enemies are a bunch of cowards. “
While the Combat Sports Law report doesn’t leave Hunt’s situation positive, his proposal to White and Fertitta’s certainly won’t look appealing.
