UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal spent money while he was away from the cage.
The MMA veteran rewarded fighters during his barehanded MMA promotion with bitcoin after the Gamebred Fighting Championship’s partnership with Legacy Records.
Legacy Records sponsored the first Gamebred Fighting Championship event in June when the brand awarded four Bitcoin-loaded hardware wallets with varying prize amounts to fighters.
The newly launched promotion has had two barehanded MMA events so far.
Bitcoiner and rising MMA star Joel Bauman performed on the first fight night with a knockout victory. He knocked out Brandon Johnson with a knee in the first round.
After the event, fighters who hold Bitcoin wallets received the “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” awards.
“Since we are the first MMA promotion to have introduced cryptocurrency as part of our combat bonus for these fighters, it helps secure their future and brings more excitement to the sport,” said Masvidal, who seeks to extend its promotion.
Masvidal last fought against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in April. Nigerian Nightmare won the rematch to continue their unbeaten streak. As for Masvidal, he is expected to fight Leon Edwards next.
