Giga Chikadze believes he is MMA’s most unique forward even more than UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Chikadze has made waves in the UFC’s featherweight division. He had three consecutive “Night Performance” bonuses. He comes off the biggest win of his professional MMA career, stopping Edson Barboza via TKO in the third round.
In a conversation with MMAFighting’s Damon Martin, Chikadze expressed his belief that even Adesanya is not on his level when it comes to hitting.
“I believe that I am the best striker of all martial arts sports at the moment, which I have done in all different sports: I came from karate and I became several times national champion, champion of Europe, twice world champion. Then I moved away from this sport. I went from this sport to kickboxing. And I became double world champion, double European champion. And I’m talking about the highest level of sport. I was fighting (in) GLORY. I was beating people there. Everyone was running away from me in the organization of GLORY Kickboxing. And now I’m in the UFC. And not everyone accepts the fight against me. Everyone wants to say (something) and not fight me, ignore me. Absoutely. Who is the best striker of the whole game at the moment?
“Israel Adesanya is a very good hitting style fighter. There are a few more. But whatever I’ve done on CV with the numbers, there’s no one like me.
Chikadze racked up a pro MMA record of 14-2 with nine of those wins by KO or TKO. He is leading a nine-game winning streak. Chikadze is 7-0 under the UFC banner.
Chikadze’s hard work is paying off. He now sits in eighth place in the official UFC featherweight standings. That said, he remains puzzled that Yair Rodriguez is in front of him.
