Tributes pour in for ex-PFL, Bellator fighter

Bellator and PFL veteran Jordan Young has passed away.

While the cause of death is unclear, Young has died aged 27, boxing trainer Derik Santos announced on Saturday. The news was confirmed on Sunday by Young’s home gym, American Top Team, as well as the latest promotion he attended, PFL, on social media.

Young has gone 12-2 as a professional mixed martial artist since his debut in 2014. Ten of his 11 wins have come from distance. In January 2017, Young signed with Bellator, where he entered the national limelight. He fought for promotion seven times and was 6-1, including five consecutive submissions.

One of the promotion’s top prospects, Young expressed his displeasure with the inactivity and ultimately parted ways with Bellator after his first career loss to future light heavyweight title challenger Julius Anglickas.

For his next move, Young joined the PFL. In 2021, he competed twice for promotion. Although he lost his promotional debut to UFC former Tom Lawlor, Young made his mark on the PFL with a memorable comeback knockout and upset fellow UFC veteran Omari Akhmedov in October.

Young touched many members of the MMA community in South Florida and beyond, with many tributes posted online following his death. Check out some of those posts below.
