Round 1 – The fighters touch gloves and the action begins with Buys attempting a kick that misses the mark. Buys Jackson’s leg dives for a teardown attempt but he seriously misses. A moment later, Buys tries again, but is able to complete the teardown this time and quickly moved on to the set-up. As Jackson tried to make the transition, Buys quickly moved to the rear and locked himself in a bare choke attempt. Jackson remains calm as he tries to get out of the position, but Buys keeps the pressure high. Jackson is able to stand up and attempts a fairly deep standing guillotine. Buys defends the attempt, however, but Jackson ends up in the lead on the canvas. After another scramble, they exchange punches to the feet before Jackson attempts a teardown. Buys jumps on a guillotine attempt, but it is well defended by Jackson, who finds himself in Buys’ custody. A brief attempt at Buys’ armband is defended before they return to the clinch on their feet. Jackson lands a few short knees as he presses Buys against the fence. Round 2 – A touch of gloves to start the second, and Jackson lands a combination of hard punches to start the round. The punches stun Buys and Jackson takes the opportunity to get a takedown. Buys gets to his feet, but they hang on and he tries a kimura. Jackson defends him but Buys then moves on to a guillotine attempt. Once again, Jackson escapes and finds himself at the top of the web. Buys threatens another kimura, but Jackson remains calm and throws a few knees to the body. The position stalls for a moment, but they come back with their feet in the clinch along the fence. They split up and Jackson throws Buys to the ground with a punch. Jackson lets Buys get back to his feet, and after landing another good punch, gets a takedown moments later. The round ends with Jackson on top of Buys, but no action came from the pullout. MMA Junkie scores the second round 10-9 for Jackson.
Round 3 – Buys opens the third with a front kick that is blocked. Jackson responds with a combination of punches. Another 1-2 drop combo buys this time. After getting back on his feet, Buys looks to stall, and Jackson’s knee lands low, causing the action to pause. After the action resumed, Jackson landed another punch that knocked Buys down. After letting him get back to his feet, they find themselves on the canvas seconds later after a teardown, with Jackson at the top. There isn’t much action from the guard here, but Buys eventually attempts a kimura with just over a minute left. Jackson defended the attempt and began hitting the body with his free arm. The round ends in the position. MMA Junkie scores the third 10-8 for Jackson, giving him the fight 30-26 overall.
