As is the norm with UFC Vegas events, last weekend’s show at Apex was a one-fight card. There were 13 actual fights at the event, but only one was worth anything for the non-hardcore viewer – the headliner between Marvin Vettori and Paulo Costa. And Costa moving the fight to 205 added some intrigue.
With Vettori making a dominant decision, he returned among the top contenders at 185 … even though the fight did not take place in that division. Weird? Yes. Normal for this ranking panel? Yes too.
In other news, former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk has been inactive for some time and has no plans to return until next spring. The UFC therefore removed her from the women’s P4P and the strawweight ranking. And Jon Jones has taken a plunge into the P4P men’s roster due to his recent criminal antics.
Here are the few changes this week.
P4P for men – Jones goes from second place to fourth. Alexander Volkanovski and Israel Adesanya take over two and three.
Heavy weights – No change.
Light heavyweight – No change.
Average weight – Vettori and Costa swap two and five places, Vettori in front now.
Welterweight – No change.
Lightweight – Charles Oliveira abandons a tie for six to take seven alone before his fight with Tony Ferguson.
Lightweight – No change.
Bantam-weight – Alex Caceres enters at 15 after a great victory over Seungwoo Choi.
Fly weight – No change.
P4P women – Joanna was six, but she left. Holly Holm is two ahead to take sixth place. Katlyn Chookagian is ahead two to eight. Marina Rodriguez, Yan Xiaonan, Julianna Pena, Aspen Ladd (?) And Lauren Murphy are all respectively 10-14 respectively. Mackenzie Dern is back at 15.
Bantamweight women – No change.
Flyweight women – No change.
Straw weight woman – Joanna is out. There were two of them. Each other fighter below her rises one place. Brianna Van Buren enters for the first time at 15 years old.
