Land is the first UNI freshman to win the Dave Schultz High School Achievement Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, recognizing the nation’s most outstanding high school student for excellence in wrestling, academics, citizenship and community service. He racked up a perfect 203-0 high school competitive record in Moody, Alabama. This summer, he became just the second wrestler from Alabama to win a junior men’s freestyle wrestling title, winning at 132 pounds.

141 | Ryder Downey
Downey comes to UNI from Indianola High School (Iowa). He won four weights in his prep career and finished with a state title at 145 pounds. He started his high school career at 106 pounds with a seventh place finish. He was second as a sophomore at 113 pounds and fifth as a junior at 132 pounds.

Voelker finished fourth at the Iowa State Championships at 170 pounds in 2019 and third at 195 pounds in 2020.

The Panthers open the season ranked 20th in the inaugural NWCA poll. UNI returns twice All-American Parker Keckeisen and seven NCAA qualifiers in addition to Cael Happelwho was named an alternate at last year’s nationals.

Eight Panthers are ranked in FloWrestling’s top 20.

The majority of the team will open the season Nov. 20 at the Daktronics Open at South Dakota State. The All-Star Classic returns this year and pits Keckeisen against Penn State’s top-ranked Aaron Brooks at 184 pounds in Austin, Texas on November 22.

Keckeisen has only three losses in his career (48-3) against only two competitors. Keckeisen was knocked down to consolation at the 2021 NCAA Championships in a 6-4 loss to Brooks before coming back for third place.

In the 2022 season, Keckeisen closed the scoring gap with Brooks, but lost 3-2 in a December duel. Keckeisen’s only other career loss is to Cal Poly’s Bernie Truax in a 6-5 decision at the 2022 NCAA Championships. He avenged that loss later in the tournament to earn a second NCAA bronze medal.

The Panthers’ first home event is the UNI Open scheduled for December 10 in the UNI-Dome. The double action will kick off on December 19 at Collegiate Duals in New Orleans.
